community event partnerships

Cornfield Dance has a history of partnering with community organizations and events. Ellen Cornfield is able to adapt the works of the company to fit any setting, and prides herself in serving the community through these partnerships. Ellen is excited to bring her work to the public, and often adapts her works to outdoor event settings.

One example of a community partnership was Cornfield Dance’s work with the Scranton, Pennsylvania community in 2010. Ellen traveled to Scranton four times prior to a formal performance, working with local theater students and a local dance company. Through teaching numerous classes and rehearsals with the students, where she drew upon their creative abilities, she was able to engage the students fully in their own technique and artistry. Ellen combined material created on this company of dance students with material she created for two of her dancers from New York. The video clip below shows a segment of this collaborative final performance.

arts education

In addition to partnering with community organizations for performances, Cornfield Dance can tailor activities from workshops and classes to community arts education activities. As a former Teaching Artist for the Lincoln Center Institute, Ellen Cornfield has ample experience working with schools and educating students about ways to look at choreography. Ellen Cornfield has worked with education programs such as the Henry Street Settlement in the past, and seeks more opportunities to partner with local schools and education programs in the future.

“Ellen Cornfield’s premier was a one of a kind dance experience for Scranton and the Civic Ballet Company... I must emphasize the incredible opportunity for every local performer... Each and every one came away experiencing artistic growth and education.”
